SETTING THE RECORD(S) STRAIGHT

A headline in Wednesday June 10ths New Ulm Journal ("Brewers pick up first win of the season") was in error. The story of a game with Gibbon was accurate in that Jim Bastian wrote it was the first win of the Tomahawk East League season for the Brewers. First win of season came last week in an exhibition game against Mankato Cubs to end a 0-6 start for the longest opening losing streak for a Brewer team and tied the record for New Ulm amateur baseball (back to the mid 1930's).
The newspaper did not list the game in the schedule nor was it reported that was played. Not reporting the result of the game may have been the responsibility of the newspaper or the baseball association and that is not the issue. We point out, however, that the result has been added to the team's schedule and results page under the new "Area Baseball" tab at the top of the banner. Pages like this will be our contribution to baseball history.
We're not fault finding, but the headline gives us the opportunity to comment on one of the benefits of Internet news postings. In the "olden" days, writers didn't have the luxury of being able to correct or add to an incorrect article after it has been "published." A problem with newspaper articles, which often are used to create history, is that errors are not corrected at all or are lost in the shuffle of space, prominence and time.
New Ulm Sports Central will always stand to be corrected since the revised articles automatically become part of our permanent history files on the Internet.
