THREE TEAMS PICKED FOR ALL-JOURNAL HONORS

Galen Holzhueter of Minnesota Valley Lutheran represented the greater New Ulm Area on the 2009 All-Journal basketball team for boys as announced Thursday April 8. Also honored were Zach Quiring of New Ulm High School on the second team and Brandon Smith of MVL on the third unit. Derek Wilfahrt, New Ulm Cathedral; and Bryce Krohn, MVL, received honorable mention recognition.
The Journal picked seven seniors, six juniors and two sophomores for its first three teams and five seniors for Honorable Mention.
In the accompanying player biographics, the Journal commented:
Holzhueter, Junior --- Holzhueter led the Chargers to a 26-2 record and averaged 19.8 points. He was honorable mention AP All-state and has been All-Tomahawk Conference three years. He averaged 7.2 rebounds during the season and scored 1,391 points during his career.
Quiring, Junior --- Quiring rated two-tiome All-South Central Conference, averaging 17.2 pgg and 5.7 rpg this season for New Ulm. He led the team in scoring and was second in the conference.
Brandon Smith, Senior --- Smith was Tomahawk All-Conference two years, average 12.7 pgg, 4.6 rpg and 2.9 apg inhis senior year. He had 627 career points.
