CATHEDRAL WIN STREAK ENDS AT 23; 45-4 IN 4 YRS

When Sleepy Eye St. Mary's defeated New Ulm Cathedral Friday night in sectional football playoffs, it ended the Cathedral winning streak at 23 games. That string is believed to be an all-time New Ulm football record for all schools locally.

In the last four years Cathedral posted a 45-win and 4-loss record with records of 11-1, 11-1, 13-1 and 10-1. In 2006 the team was 11-3 and previously had won nine games in 2003 and 2004.

The amazing run of Greyhound football success contrasts sharply with the 1994, 1995 and 1996 era when the team was 1-23 beginning with 0-8 seasons in 1994 an 1995. The 16-game losing streak likely may have been extended with losses in 1993 and 1997.

Despite starting his Cathedral career with an 0-8 season, Denny Lux recorded his unreported 100th victory mid-way through the past season. To view Cathedral's season record click here
