1933-1935 AREA BASEBALL RECORDED

Baseball history in hard copy format gained three more years this week when CRT's newly acquired microfilm reader/printer got an extended workout. Material was located and printed for the 1933, 1934 and 1935 seasons for teams of the New Ulm area.

The copy is not perfect yet because of scratches on the film, but it will augment a series of “yearbooks” for New Ulm baseball from 1937-1954. A digital scanner on the wish list of CRT would eliminate much of the undesired markings. The yearbook collection includes published write-ups of games, almost all with full box scores which report all the names of participants of that era. It was noted, for example, that Essig went through an undefeated season before losing in the regional back in 1935.

Results of other games by Hanska, Lake Shore, Searles, Sigel etc. are recorded in those years and will be archived to the New Ulm Sports Central Historical Library.

All of the local books will be hard copy archives and form the basis of eventual uploading to the Internet website, www.newulmsportscentral.com.

In the early 1930’s New Ulm had at least three teams and none were called Brewers, Millers or Kaiserhoff. Some of the die-hard amateur baseball fans can probably guess one of the three names but we doubt if anyone can get all three without doing some extensive research. We’ll try adding to this blog in a week or so with the names of the trio. Got a guess? Email nusc@newulmtel.net
