Second NUHS Player Wins Conference Honors

New Ulm’s Garrett Fischer Named NSIC Player of the Week Monday, May 7, 2012

ST. PAUL, Minn. - After a stellar week of play, St. Cloud State University sophomore outfielder Garrett Fischer from New Ulm High School was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week Monday morning according to a release from the conference office.

He is the second former Eagle to be named this year as Player of the Week, following Nate Vanroekel at Winona State University.

Fischer batted a solid .619 in six wins this week for the Huskies last week with 13 hits in 21 at bats. He also scored 10 runs, drove in five runs, had three doubles and a triple from the two-spot in a Husky lineup signed as a New Ulm Brewer for amateur baseball, Fischer also reached base by getting hit three times. He had four multi-hit games in the week week.

He had at least one hit in all six games, which was started with 4-for-4 game from the plate in the opener against Upper Iowa. Fischer also raised his batting average 37 points to a stellar .396 average, second on the Huskies.

The Huskies will next play in the first round of the NSIC Tournament at Noon Wednesday, May 9 in at Franklin Rodger Park in Mankato, Minn.
