New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

He joins a limited number of New Ulm baseball people who have received this honors, the most recent of which was A. R. (Al) Mueller. Both individuals moved to New Ulm as young adults and quickly became involved in the promotion of baseball of all sorts.

Wyczawski's biggest amateur achievement was chairing the 1958 state amateur tournament in New Ulm, considered by many as one of the best in the last half century.

He also served a record 24 years as mayor of the community, has been very activity in American Legion baseball and has compiled thousands of hours of baseball history for the community in photographs and documents. He has provided much of the material for the permanent preservation digital archives of New Ulm Sports Central.

He has served many local and state offices and committees. Wyczawski came to New Ulm in the early 1950's

Stan Wilfahrt as the last player honored. Others who have received the award include Frank Tauscheck, president in the 1940's and Henry Nicklasson, player-manager and like Tauscheck a charter member; plus Victor J. Sondag who served in finance and administration before becoming a member of the state board. All have been elected to the New Ulm Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame which started with the Johnson Park 50th anniversary in 1989.

The NUABHOF is charged with nominating suitable candidates for the state honors.

Roy Gebhard, also of New Ulm was named to the Minnesota Hall directly by the state organization.
