DON BOELTER SELECTED HS COACHES' HOF

New Ulm native Donald Boelter will join inductees to the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in October it was learned today by New Ulm Sports Central. He will join Cathedral's late Stan Wilfahrt in the honors. Boelter was a star basketball and baseball player at New Ulm High School where he graduated in 1950 and then played major roles for the baseball (starting four years) and basketball teams (starting three years) at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, graduating there in 1954. In his senior year he set the Luther College single season scoring record and was elected to the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1974. His career included baseball and basketball coaching at Ceylon and Sleepy Eye.

The honoree is the son of the late Emil and Martha Boelter (Boelter Road Construction) and brother of Gene of New Ulm the late Marvin (Red) and Kenny. His wife, Yvonne, is the daughter of Roy and Sylvia Strate of New Ulm. The Don Boelters had five children including Diane, teaching Sleepy Eye St. Mary's; Torry, Sanborn, teaching Head Start, Sleepy Eye; Tarry, coaching and teaching Slayton; Vawn, teaching in Utah and Vance, Sleepy Eye.

Boelter and others selected will be formally inducted in October but will be introduced between games at the Lions all-star series in Chaska June 19th. The first of two games is at 4:30 p.m. NUSC notes that others being selected include: Al Cassidy, Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin; Jim Cosgrove, Minneapolis Washburn; Tim Kiemel, Sr., St. Paul Harding, Jim Muchlinski, Marshall; Gary Porter, Maple Lake and Jeff Reese, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.

Don coached baseball for 34 years with a 309-189 and .620 record, winning nine Tomahwk conference titles and six times runner-up. At the state level his teams won the state baseball crown in 1981. Two other state teams included 1976 (second) and 1989.
