New Ulm High School graduate Nate Van Roekel has been named the Northern Sun Conference baseball payer of the week.
Van Roekel had an outstanding week as Winona State won all six of its games. The second baseman had 14 hits in 28 at bats, going with three home runs and 15 RBIs. He has six homers for the season.
Of his 14 hits during the week, nine went for extra bases. The senior began things by going 3-for-5 with three doubles and four RBIs in the opener of a doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth. He was 5-of-10 on the doubleheader, adding a triple in game two. Van Roekel hit a home run in the first game of a four-game series with Minnesota, Crookston, going 5-of-10 in the opening doubleheader. He exploded in Sunday’s doubleheader, hitting a two-run homer in game one and going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and seven RBIs in game two.
Van Roekel also scored 10 runs during the week and added a stolen base. He posted an on-base percentage of .548 while slugging 1.071 as WSU won all six games it played on the road.
