Sports saved history objects counter passes 4,000

Over 4,000 different objects have now been preserved for New Ulm's sports history on the New Ulm Sports Central website.

Aaron Schwartz and John Hemmelmann of LaCrosse and Winona have been assisting this year to scan the negatives and articles. They are MLC students and formerly attended Luther at Onalaska, WI.

Items are counted individually and indexed to be searchable on the website by utilizing either of two search mechanisms. There are a dozen criteria built into each index. Over 1700 different images are part of the mix of history. They are mostly photographic or documents. Many represent a conversion of old black and white photo negatives of 4x5, 120mm and 35mm size.

These are generally JPG formats and are shown as full frame reproductions and are not cropped or touched up. Other TIF formatted images support those to allow higher quality image reproduction if desired. They are not included in the 1700.

A team picture of 20 players and coaches is considered as one image and in if all the individuals were counted separately, there would be 100,000 individual pieces of of history. Sports Central has not created a counter to keep tabs of the ever-changing grand total.
