LEGION GOLD ANNOUNCES BUSY SCHEDULE

New Ulm American Legion Gold coach LeRoy (Butch) Flor Wednesday announced a season schedule that could include as many as 40 games. The Gold team will participate in four tournaments before district competition. The New Ulm post is the host for the state Legion tournament at Johnson Park beginning July 31, 2009.

Although the Gold will not venture out of the state, it will non-the-less play teams from five other midwest states including North Dakota, Missouri, Illinois, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Gold opens June 16 with a road trip of eight games in five days. It will participate in the Wood Bat tournament at Marshall, the Fargo-Moorhead tournament and the Gopher Classic at Bethel University, St. Paul as well as the Upper Midwest Classic scheduled at Johnson Park.

The Classic this year will feature perennial powers like Sioux Falls, Apple Valley, Roichester, DePere, Wisconsin; Oakdale, Burnsville, Creighton, Nebraska, Duluth, Eastview and Sleepy Eye. New Ulm Legion Blue will be included in the 12-team tournament. The team roster is expected to be determined by this weekend.

The complete schedule will be posted as part of the "Area Baseball" tab at the top of the banner above.
