THURSDAY, FRIDAY SUMMARY

New Ulm's Junior Legion and Mankato have 2-0 records after all teams completed two-games Thursday and Friday in the Upper Midwest Junior Classic.
New Ulm has outscored its opponents 15-1 with 3-0 and 12-1 wins over Tonka Mudhens and Buffalo. Mankato has 3-2 win over Maple Grove Jr. Legion and 5-1 over Creighton's Nebraska team. Eight of the teams have split two games while Sleepy Eye and Rochester Century are 0-2. Play resumes Saturday with two games at Essig, two at Mueller Park and a pair of contests at Johnson. The final six games of the third round are scheduled mid-afternoon and evening with the New Ulm Junior Legion and VFW Gold playing back-to-back games in the evening finale. They also have back-to-back games in one of the morning sessions.

Both New Ulm teams scored wins in the opening night action at Johnson Park in the Upper Midwest Junior Classic Thursday.
Junior Legion scored the only runs of the game in the top of the seventh to outlast the Tonka Mudhens 3-0. It was Jr. Legion’s 14th win against a single loss. Earlier New Ulm VFW Gold persisted to edge Sleepy Eye 8-7 with several comeback rallies.

Zach Hoffmann’s bases loaded double with two outs in the top of the seventh propelled New Ulm Jr. Legion over Tonka Mudhens 3-0 Thursday night.
Colton Petron pitched the shutout for New Ulm without walking a batter and struck out five. He gave up only two hits, both to Alex Twenge. Tonka pitcher Andrew Weber matched his shutout string until the seven.
Singles by Adam Loose and Kevin Larson and walk to Aaron Pfaff set the table for Hoffmann’s bases clearing drive to deep left.
Loose with three and Larson with two led New Ulm hitting.
