TOMAHAWK'S PATRIOT DIVISION IS UP FOR GRABS. AND HOW!

Talk about setting up a schedule for a close race! With two weeks left in the regular season, the Tomahawk East's Patriot Division is amazingly close and could very well stay that way until the final standings are determined. Going into this weekend's games, three of the four teams have identical 9-9 records and the fourth is only a half-game out at 9-10.For complete league standings, scores and upcoming games, click on "Area Baseball" at the top of the banner and then on "Tomahawk East ..." This section is found daily on New Ulm Sports Central.

The amateur leagues other divisions are "just about" wrapped up with Lamberton's Long Sox holding a two-game edge over Searles' Grizzlies and Hanska's Lakers in front of Sleepy Eye Indians by 2.5. Four teams have already won double digit games with Lamberton and Sleepy Eye Indians (second in the National behind Hanska, both having won 13 and Searles 10.

The Patriot division teams don't have a lot of games left against themselves so some ties can be anticipated and bring into play the league's tie-breaking system. Springfield has a9-10 record and meets division rival Leavenworth (9-9) Sunday at Springfield. Stark has two inter-division games remaining, playing Springfield at home July 22 and at Lamberton July 26. The results within divisions could figure in the tie-breakers after there is a head-to-head comparison.
