JR. LEGION, FAIRMONT UNBEATEN IN SOUTHWEST

HANSKA - New Ulm Jr. Legion topped Wells 16-2 and Fairmont took Sherburn 8-4 to set up a semi-final match of undefeated teams in the Southwest Sub-District of the VFW playoffs. They will meet today at Hanska's Hanlin field at 5 p.m. in a time schedule change. The winner moves to Sunday's 2 p.m. finals while the loser faces the survivor of the elimination bracket. A second championship game if necessary is sheduled Monday. Various time schedules may have been further revised without notification to New Ulm Sports Central).

In Friday's elimination bracket St. James edged Blue Earth 5-4 while New Ulm Blue advanced with a bye due to Mapleton's forfeit to Sherburn. Blue will meet Wells at 2:30 Saturday. St. James goes against Sherburn at noon.

New Ulm sent 20 batters to the plate in the first inning to score 15 of it's 16 runs as Dan Blackstad slammed a three-run homer off the scoreboard. Jr. Legion used Colin Wendinger, Tim Kehren and Collin Clyne to pitch a one-hitter. Jason Shaul was 3-3 with three runs and an RBI. Shane Trauklich had two RBI, two runs and 2-2. Kaleb Juntunen and Aaron Pfaff each had two runs batted in.
