BLUE OUT, JR. LEGION GETS SNAKE BITE AGAIN

HANSKA - The three VFW level teams from the immediate New Ulm area were down to one, and that in a precarious position, as VFW Second District sub-district play headed for conclusions today.

With Gold already ousted at the Northwest tournament at Hutchinson, Blue picked up a 3-2 win over Wells but then lost 7-2 to Sherburn for it's eliminating second loss. But the real stunner was powerhouse Jr. Legion again getting snake-bite and losing 3-2 to Fairmont in a repeat of 2008. Fairmont had earlier squeaked by Blue, New Ulm's third team, 1-0. New Ulm will need three wins, the first over Sherburn and two over Fairmont, in order to win the championship.

The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for Jr. Legion (28-2).

<>At Hutchinson, Sleepy Eye advanced to the finals even though it lost 7-4 to Dassel-Cokato but then topped Hutchinson 7-2 to eliminate Hutchinson. Sleepy Eye plays Dassel today for the title. Both have been guaranteed spots in the Distirct tournament at Sleepy Eye. Results reported by New Ulm Journal.
