TOMAHAWK AMATEUR BASEBALL PLAYOFFS BEGIN FRIDAY

First games of the first round of the Tomahawk East playoffs kick off Friday in the league's three divisions. Ultimately six of the 12 teams will qualify for regional competition to name state tournament participants.

Games are scheduled at the higher seeds in the divisions with #4 playing at #1 and #3 playing at #2 as outlined in the attached playoff bracket. Second games in the best of three series are reversed for Sunday. The six winners will play for draft rights and regional playoff assignments.

Times and sites have been set for first round games according to the Tomahawk League officials per the following:
American Division - Gibbon at Lamberton, 8 p.m.; Essig vs Searles, tentatively at Springfield, 8 p.m.
National - New Ulm Brewers at Hanska, 8:30; Redwood Falls at Sleepy Eye, 8 p.m.
Patriot - St. James at Leavenworth, 8 p.m.; Springfield at Stark, 8 p.m.

The unusual tie situation in the Patriot Division was cleared up using the existing provisions. In the Patriot division a three-way tie was broken by using the best division records which showed Stark and Sprignfield still tied with 3-3 division records and St. James standing 2-4. St. James was then moved to the fourth seed. Since Stark beat Springfield twice in head-to-head play, it earned the number two seed.

Second games in the first round are slated with Lamberton at Gibbon 3 p.m. (tent.), Searles at Essig 2 p.m., Hanska at New Ulm, 7:30 p.m. tent., Sleepy Eye at Redwood Falls, 7:30 p.m. tent., Leavenworth at St. James, 2 p.m. and Stark at Springfield 7:30 p.m. tent.

If any third games are needed they will be played Tuesday, Aug. 2.
