GOLD HANGS TOUGH TO PLAY AGAIN FRIDAY AT 1 P.M.

After losing a tough 5-4 decision to No. 1 ranked Apple Valley, New Ulm Gold remained alive in the State American Legion baseball tournament by beating Hopkins 4-1 in the elimination bracket. The win now puts New Ulm into a 1 p.m. game Friday at Mueller Park against Hamline Purple which lost to the Holy Angel Academy Stars Thursday night.
From here on Gold cannot lose if it wants to stay as a contender for the state crown.

Hamline Purple was third ranked before the tournament so NU Gold will have played the top three ranked teams in the Minnesota American Legion poll.

Packing bags after two losses were Hopkins, Excelsior, St. Paul Park and Waite Park leaving a dozen teams with shots at the finals. The field could be reduced quickly Friday morning and early afternoon. At 10 a.m. Egan vs Mankato National at Johnson and Grand Rapids plays Willmar at Mueller. At 1 p.m. Buffalo vs Fergus Falls at Johnson and New Ulm God vs Hamiline Purple at Mueller. Only other game where both teams are know is the 4:30 Johnson Park contest between Wayzata and the Academy Stars, both winners of two games.
