NU JR LEGION FALLS IN CLASSIC SEMIS 8-7

A four-run rally in the last inning fell short as New Ulm Junior Legion fell 8-7 in the semi-finals of the Junior Upper Midwest Classic concluding today in New Ulm. Winner Creighton Prep of Omaha advanced to the championship game at 2:30 against the Tonka Mudhens/Mankato game scheduled at noon.

It was a different kind of game for the Junior Legion which had used stellar defense and almost perfect pitching in its march to the semi-finals. It jumped to a 3-0 lead after two innings and then a series of infield hits, errors and walks produced seven unearned runs for Creighton. Leading 8-3, Creighton saw New Ulm rally with walks and a key hit by Kaleb Juntunen in its four-run inning. The tying run was on third before a squeeze bunt popped up and a sharp grounder to third forced the third out at second.

The defeat was only the second of the season against 17 wins. Losses came to Wisconsin and Nebraska teams.
