TOURNAMENT MEMORIES ... FROM THE PAST AND FOR THE FUTURE

Among the fans at Thursday's New Ulm Gold and Apple Valley State Legion tournament game in New Ulm were Mike Semling and his grandson Henry Tapp (pictured). Their visit was planned so that Semling's grandson Henry, both of Shorview, could soak up the atmosphere of a state American Legion tournament baseball game. Semling served in WW2 above the aircraft carrier Valley Forge and wanted to see some good Legion baseball. His nephew, Mike, of Winona was the tournament MVP for Winona in 1970. Henry, 13, hopes to play Legion to gather his own baseball memories. They were treated to a great game as Apple Valley finally won it in the last of the ninth 5-4.
