Sleepy Eye scored a 6-3 win over Springfield Sunday in a second tie-breaking playoff game to qualify for the state amateur baseball tournament.

Springfield had eliminated Hanska by 5-2 to move into the final game playoff Sunday morning advancing to meet Sleepy Eye for the right to go to the state tournament at Watkins/Cold Spring . Rains then put the game on ice with Sleepy Eye holding a 6-3 lead in the seventh at 3 p.m. before the game could be finished. This was the last game to fill out the Class C brackets for the tournament.

Sleepy Eye will play Delano Saturday at Watkins at 1:30 p.m. right after Lamberton meets Shakopee at 11 a.m. Region champion New Ulm has a first round bye to await the winner of the New Munich/St. Patrick game. The Brewers play at Cold Spring Sunday, Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.

New Ulm's 3-2 win over Hanska created a special three-team playoff of tie breakers to determine the Region 2C's third entry into the 2015 Minnesota state amateur baseball tournament.

Hanska now plays at Springfield Sunday morning with the winner advancing to the final game at 2 p.m. Tie-breakers were determined by the formulas below.

New Ulm's Friday night 6-3 win over Lamberton sends the Brewers (4-0) to the state amateur tournament as this year's Region 2C champion.
Also Friday Sleepy Eye shelled Springfield 16-4 in seven innings.
Hanska can join Lamberton (3-2) in the state if it beats New Ulm Saturday tonight at New Ulm. A Hanska loss, however, could throw the Lakers into a tie with Springfield and possibly St. James or Sleepy Eye depending on how established tie-breakers, if any, would play out. All three teams would be 2-3.
Sunday had been reserved for any tiebreaker games if necessary.
How the rules, listed below, apply will be determined after final games.

Region 2C tiebreakers for playoffs

**In case of 2-way ties: one game with winner of head-to-head in first round as home team.
**In case of 3-way ties: a drawing will be held with team drawn given bye, the other 2 teams will play-off at site of winner in round one. The winner will play at the “bye” site.
**In case of 4-way ties: teams will be drawn to pair them up, winners play and losers play, with home sites same as before.

Standings got a little crowded for four teams going into the fanal games to determine three winners who advance to the state amateur baseball tournament.

Wednesday night one-run winners were Hanska over Lamberton and Springfield over St. James 3-2. It was Lamberton's first loss int he playoffs while Hanska and Springfield each are now 2-2.

Friday New Ulm (3-0) and Lamberton (3-1) meet for top seed picks besides the state tournament trip on the line. Springfield meanwhile could advance to 3-2 in its final game at Springfield against Sleepy Eye.

Saturday Hanska and the Brewers play what could be a crucial game especially if Springfield goes to a final 3-1 record by beating Hanska. New Ulm plays both Lamberton and Hanska who have tournament hopes. Some tie breaker games may be in the offing.

Lamberton and New Ulm ran their Tomahawk East League round robin playoff records to 3-0 and virtually assured themselves of a spot in the 2015 state amateur tournament at Watkins and Cold Spring.
Hanska meanwhile lost its second straight to fall into a three-way tie with Springfield and St. James. Only one will advance to the state. All three play Wednesday night with Springfield matched with St. James and Hanska taking on Lamberton.
All three play "must win" games Wednesday night.

Springfield finished with a 10-6 win over Hanska in the game postponed Sunday, Aug. 9 when postponed as Springfield was leading 8-4. The result left both teams tied with 1-1 records in the round-robin playoff scheme of the Tomahawk League.

Lamberton and New Ulm advanced to 2-0 in the Region 2C state amateur baseball round robin playoffs. Both won weekend games while Hanska (1-0) is trailing Springfield 8-4 in a game postponed in the fifth inning. At that point Hanska had bases loaded and one out.
