New Ulm VFW Gold pulled off two tight wins over Farmington, the last unbeaten in the field, to earn a trip to the state tournament at Willmar. Gold edged Farmington 2-1 in a game which set up the championship later in the day and which then saw New Ulm win 2-1.

Gold plays Thursday Aug. 10 at Baker Field I Willmar in its first game.

Farmington had beaten New Ulm 4-2 in the battle of unbeatens in earlier game. New Ulm Gold was able to score a 4-1 win over Shakopee in the drop-down loser's bracket to get back against Farmington for the District 2 VFW championship at Mankato. Shakopee had to beat Hutchinson 4-1 to get another chance against New Ulm.
