New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

MARSHALL - New Ulm High School's Eagles were denied a state tournament trip for the second straight season when the team lost a 2-1 eight-inning thriller to Luverne here Thursday. It was New Ulm's second loss in the double elimination tournament. New Ulm's Kyle Fischer struck out 14 batters before a walk, error and bloop single chased in the winning run. Luverne went undefeated in the tournament. It is coached by Mike Wenninger, a New Ulm baseball graduate. In 2008 New Ulm lost to Pipestone in the championship series.
