New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

Another step forward for New Ulm Sports Central was accomplished Friday with the addition of detailed schedule and results reports for 11 summer baseball teams.

The feature is found at the top of the Sports Central home page banner and labeled “Area Baseball”. Teams included are Kaiserhoff and Brewers of New Ulm, Essig, Searles, Hanska, American Legion Gold, Blue and Junior Legion, VFW Gold and Blue and the Hanska Bullheads senior team.

Clicking on that will produce a list of the 11 teams for which a combination schedule and results page is attached. Later rosters for the 11 teams will be added. Also being considered is a “put the box score back into baseball” initiative via a link to the individual games.
The page at the end of the season will serve as an instant record of each team’s entire year’s games and scores and will become another permanent sports record and will always be open to the website viewer 24/7. In this fashion, two of the three goals of sports history preservation are being preserved without additional work requirements. The results provide a present-day record that transcends into a historic document and produces the “keystrokes” for captured data.
The material is part of a database format which will allow many sorts and won-lost reports. It could produce, for example, the team’s success in home vs away, regular season vs tournaments, day vs night games, etc. or any combination. The same format was used to develop a data base of New Ulm baseball history from the 1930’s to 1989 when Johnson Park celebrated its 50th anniversary.
