New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

It won't take long Sunday to get down to one undefeated leader in the standings for Pool B of the Upper Midwest Classic baseball tournament. The two leaders meet at 10:30 a.m. in an unusual confrontation which pits perennial contender Creighton against an upstart New Ulm Blue team which hadn't won a season game until the opening game of the tournament Thursday night.

In Pool A at 1:00 New Ulm Gold (2-0) meets Apple Valley (1-1). DePere, WI (2-0) will be challenged by Oakdale (1-1). New Ulm and DePere are not scheduled against each other in the third or fourth round pool games. Sunday's play opens with Burnsville vs Duluth and Rochester vs Sioux Falls at Essig at 9:30 a.m. and noon. At Mueller Park, Apple Valley Eastview vs Sleepy Eye at 10 a.m. and DePere vs Oakdale at 12:30 p.m.

The fourth round of pool play has its final six games starting at 3 p.m. and concluding with New Ulm Gold playing Sioux Falls at Johnson Park at 7:30 p.m. Gold has lost only once during the entire season.
The two top teams in each division play tournament semi finals Sunday and then winners will meet for the title at 2:30.
