New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

Two teams among the finalists in New Ulm's Upper Midwest Classic a week ago have moved on to the quarter finals of the Gopher Classic in Twin Cities. Eight teams survived grueling pools to narrow the original field of 46.

Reaching today's quarter finals were Apple Valley 76'ers and Eastview (another Apple Valley area team). They join Burnsville and Excelsior to represent Minnesota while the remaining 50% of the field came from midwest and other states. They included Napoleon, OH; Kenosha, WI; Elk Grove, IL; and Eldorado, NM. Semi-finals, also today, will pair off the two finalists for the championship game in the Metrodome.

Elk Grove(4-1) won the pool in which New Ulm Gold competed and advanced over DePere, WI which also was 4-1. New Ulm ended 3-2, Sartell finished 2-3 and Tri-City Red and richfield both ended 1-4.
