New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

Two New Ulm summer youth baseball teams who compiled outstanding season records finished second in District 2 tournaments. Both gave way to Mankato teams in the finals. Also in tournament play New Ulm Blue was eliminated at Jackson and VFW Gold lost out in the sub-district at Hutchinson. New Ulm VFW Blue, however, lost in the sub-district but then entered the Minnesota Federation tournament and took second in the state's Class A division.

New Ulm Legion Gold lost to Mankato in the District 2 tournament at Jackson. It took one loss in the first round and then after battling back into the championship game, lost the second meeting in a slug fest 18-17. It needed that win and then another one over the same team.

New Ulm Jr. Legion, playing in the District 2 VFW tournament at Sleepy Eye, was nipped 8-6 by the Mankato Royals, battled back in the elimination bracket but then dropped a 5-4 decision. Had it won, Jr. Legion would need a second win over Mankato.
