Cathedral was New Ulm's only opening game winner in Friday night high school football, beating Springfield, 21-13. MVL lost to Redwood Valley 15-6 at Johnson Field while NUHS's Eagles took a 35-8 defeat at Jackson County Central.
Cathedral scored in the first quarter and held it's lead for the whole game with a fourth quarter touchdown increasing a 14-13 lead to earn the Tomahawk Conference win. The insurance TD came on Mike Glawe's second score, a 47-yard run. He had put the first points on the board in the first quarter with a 15-yard run.
MVL scored in the second quarter on a 45-yard scamper by quarterback Christian Evers.
