New Ulm's Jamie Hoffmann has been offered a new contract by the Los Angeles Dodgers according to a Saturday published New Ulm Journal article by Jim Bastian. The headline indicates Hoffmann signed the contract, but it may be that the Dodgers and Hoffmann have reached an agreement pending on what happens with waivers. The Dodgers must seek waivers according to one fo the options listed under the "designated for assignment" conditions NUSC listed several days ago. Hoffmann also indicated such a condition in a conversation with Bastian who reported Hoffmann has rejoined the Albuquerque Isotopes for a season finale series with the Des Moines with playing time possibly be conditional on clearing of waivers.

Bastian's article in the Journal reported:
"NEW ULM - Less than 48 hours after being Designated For Assignment by the LosAngeles Dodgers, Jamie Hoffmann resigned with the Dodgers early Friday morning.

"I still have to go through release waivers and then formally sign - I do not know how the formality works," Hoffmann said Friday afternoon from Des Moines where the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes are playing a series with the Iowa Cubs.

Hoffmann said that he is "very happy" with the contract that the Dodgers offered.

"They said that my being designated for assignment was only a business decision," he said. "They are trying to win the World Series this season. They told me that they really have some plans for me - that was proven in their contract offer. They wanted me to stick around with the Dodgers."

He said that he is not back on the 40-man major league roster now because that can't happen until next May. "That was part of the deal also," Hoffmann said, "but hopefully I can get back on that 40-man roster as quick as possible." Hoffmann said that he will not be eligible for post-season play with the Dodgers but that he can play with Albuquerque this coming Wednesday.

The contract signed by Hoffmann covers the end of this season and all of next season.

"Ned Colletti (General Manager of the Dodgers) called and talked to me and told me that the Dodgers do not want to lose me - they have plans for me."

Hoffmann said that there are no hard feelings towards the Dodgers. "It was a business decision," he said, "and I am very happy to be back with the Dodgers."
