FREE AGENT HOFFMANN SIGNS WITH ALBUQUERQUE

A transaction report normally not easily noted, indicated today that New Ulm outfielder Jamie Hoffmann today signed a contract with the Albuquerque Isotopes. He was described as a free agent.

His status has been pending since Sept. 1 when he was designated for assignment which presented a number of options dependent on such things as waivers, new contracts, etc. Sept. 1 opened a 10-day window for something to be worked out between him and the Los Angeles Dodgers or some other professional baseball team.

With the Isotopes opening a Pacific League playoff series today in Memphis, there appeared to be an urgency surrounding the signing. Previously there were reports he had signed or had been offered a new contract by Los Angeles. As of 3 p.m. today none of the regular "transaction" resources on either the Dodger's or Isotope's swebsites had indicated the signing.

A family member indicated Hoffmann was in Des Moines over the Labor Day weekend as the pennant winners were concluding the regular season. He was not eligible to play then. He will not be able to be called up by the Dodgers this year but because of signing with Albuquerque will stay on the Dodger radar through spring training.
