KNIGHTS WIN UMAC OPENER OVER UM-MORRIS 45-20

NEW ULM, Minn. – The MLC football team dominated the Cougars of UM-Morris in every phase for a 45-20 win in their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener. Provided by Sports Information Department, Martin Luther College. See "Fall Sports" above for connections to all stats for game.

The Knights finished the game with a 553-320 edge in total offense, including a 433-80 edge in rushing yards. MLC
finished with three players with at least 90 yards rushing.

The game didn’t start out as the Knights had planned, as the Cougars returned the opening kick-off to the MLC 19 yard-line and scored three plays later on a Robert Koranda seven-yard touchdown run to put the Knights in a 7-0
hole. MLC responded, though, with a six-play, 70-yard scoring drive of their own, which was capped by a 14-yard
touchdown scamper from Andrew Becker, but a missed extra point meant the Knights still trailed by one at 7-6.

Later in the quarter, Greg Holzhueter connected on the first of his three touchdown passes to Alexander Hunt on a
28-yard strike, with a Holzhueter scamper on the two-point conversion putting the Knights ahead 14-7 through one
quarter of play.

After Shawn Scherer 30-yard field goal late in the second quarter sent the Knights into halftime with a 17-7 lead, the
Knights exploded In the third quarter, scoring on a two-play, 40-yard drive capped on a nine-yard
scoring strike from Holzhueter to Ryan Kolander to give the Knights a 23-7 lead. Hunt capped off a longer drive
later in the quarter with a 20-yard run to push the lead up to 31-7.

Morris scored late in the third to cut the MLC lead to 18 points, but the Knights started the fourth quarter with two
scoring drives, with Kolander getting his second touchdown to begin the quarter, followed by Aaron Voss capping
a 12-play, 80-yard drive with a ten-yard touchdown run.

Voss led the Knight ground game with 144 yards and one score on 21 carries, while Holzhueter had 142 yards on
14 carries. Becker finished with 90 yards on 11 carries and his score. Holzhueter was also very efficient in the passing game, completing eight of his ten attempts for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Kolander was the recipient of five of those passes for 65 yards and two scores.

Defensively, the Knights were led by Chuqee Fletcher with six tackles, including two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Luke Beilke also had six tackles, while Joe Lindloff had four tackles an one interception.

The Knights improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the UMAC. MLC will return to the field next Saturday for homecoming when they host Northwestern for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
