NEW ULM - During Thursday night's South Central Conference volleyball match between New Ulm High School and Fairmont, the New Ulm student section was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The students had been making chants at the Fairmont coach and the game officials warned the students to stop what they were doing.

Later on in the match an object was tossed on the court and that item was brought to the attention of the officials, who immediately ejected all students in the section where they believed the object was thrown.

The New Ulm Police Department was then called and were informed about the incident and according to the police report, four officers responded to make sure that the students left peacefully.

New Ulm Activities Director Steve Worm said that the administration is looking into the incident to see what course of action should be taken.

"We are investigating, interviewing, identifying and compiling the facts based upon the incident," he said. "That will allow us to take the best course of action.

"At this particular point, before we can determine any course of action we will have to consult with the superintendent and the school board. We began that procedure this morning."

There was also an incident with a fan and an official at the New Ulm girls Section 2A playoff loss with Willmar Oct. 17. That is also being investigated.

"We have been in contact with the Minnesota State High School League with both instances," Worm said. "They are part of the process in acquiring information. It has been reported to them, both instances, by the officials and one of the reasons we are in communication with the Minnesota State High School League is we look to see what the similar incidents - how they have been dealt with by other schools in the state - and what previous action that has been taken."

At this time, no decision has been made about what will happen to the individuals involved in either incident.

"At this particular time I am just not in a position to give more information," Worm said. "Until we have clarified and received all of the information, we need to identify the problem, then have the opportunity to consult with all the people that need to be involved. At this time we just aren't ready to identify what our decision will be."
