HOLZHUETER TOPS MVL, CITY SCORING; NEW LIST ATTACHED

(Ed. Note: Holzhueter scored 27 points vs Hector/Buffalo Lake Friday night to become New Ulm's leading basketball scorer with 1,699 with the balance of the season remaining.

Senior Galen Holzueter has moved into the number one spot for basketball career scoring for Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School. His 30-point effort Tuesday, Jan. 19, gave him 1,672 points. He passed up Dan Unke who scored 1,662 in ending his career in 2001.

Holzueter needs 23 to become New Ulm's all-time leader to unseat Steph Klaviter of Cathedral who finished 1995 with 1,694 points. Galen's brother Greg had 1,050 in his high school career. The family record, however, is held by the Merseths. Jessica's name was not included in the list published in the New Ulm Journal in Janaury, 2010. Tim had 1,640 in 1996 and sister Jessica 1,637 in 2003. Merseths and Holzhueter are the only family duos in the list of all-time scorers.
