BERNARD WINS RECORD FIFTH GOLD MEDAL

CALGARY, Alberta - New Ulm native Ali Bernard became the first wrestler in Canadian Interuniversity history to win five gold medals in a career.
Bernard, who wrestles for University of Alberta, defeated University of Calgary wrestler Erica Wiebe in the 72 kg weight class final, Saturday at the CIS championship in Calgary.
Bernard spent four seasons competing for the University Regina, before taking a year off and training with the United States Olympic team
Bernard has dominated the Canada West and CIS female wrestling scene since her debut in 2004 when she was crowned Canada West and CIS Rookie of the Year, as well as Canada West's Most Outstanding Female Wrestler.
She joined the University of Alberta in 2009 with her sights set on a fifth national gold, while also finishing her physical education degree.
