WILLMAR --- New Ulm High School added to its disappointing record in Section basketball here Tuesday night despite making a valiant effort against No. 2 rated Willmar. According to the Tribune, Willmar avoided an upset to move on in the playoffs. (see story and photo link in scoreboard above).
The loss is the 12th consecutive first round defeat for New Ulm High School in Section 2, 3A. The last win was in 66-62 over Waseca in 1999. New Ulm has now lost 16 of its last 17 first round playoff games.
In the last seven seasons, New Ulm has won 39 basketball games and lost 119. The Eagles have had only one winning season (13-12 in 2007) in 16 years since 1995 when it had a 23-1 record. In the last seven years New Ulm has won six or fewer games six times.
