New Ulm Sports Central - Preserving and Sharing New Ulm Area Sports History

Two NU/NUC/MVL Eagles were selected to the 2009 All-Journal wrestling team. Named were Jake Schmidt, a senior at 215 and Pat Brinkman, as senior heavyweight. Honorable mentions were Luke Derksen, 130, Jr.; Luke Schmidt, sophomore, 140; and Jamie Gieseke, Senior, 152.

Journal named Redwood Valley's Tony Vaske, a senior, as the All-Journal Wrestler of the Year. He received the award last year as well.

Jake Schmidt, Sr. Finished season 33-6, leading team with 13 pins. Was third with 58 take downs and Section 2AA champion. At state 2-2. Career record: 94-40.
Pat Brinkman,Sr.. 22-3 for season with eight pins, 51 take downs. Section 2AA champion. Three-time placer at state tournament with 5th places as sophomore and senior and runner-up at 215 as junior. 141-48 career as second highest on win's list.
Luke DerksenJr. 130. Recorded 18-11 record with six pins. Third in SCC and Section 2AA. Has 59-37 career record to-date.
Luke Schmit, So. 140, So.13-9 with 61 takedowns and three pins. Third SCC, second Section 2AA, qualified for state. Has 235-51 to-date record.
Jamie Gieseke,Sr. 152, Second on tip with 11 pins during 24-10 season., Led team with 65 taketowns. Won SCC and third in Section 2AA. Career 77-92.
