SCORING SEMINAR SATURDAY IS FREE

Unusual scoring plays will be one of the topics covered in a one-hour free baseball and softball scorekeeping seminar to be held in New Ulm Saturday during the annual Home and Self Improvement show.
Brian Larson, who has scored the state amateur baseball tournament for the last 25 years, will be one the presenters in the 10:30 a.m. program at the Civic Center at the Brown County fairgrounds.
Michael Gibbons, sports information director for Martin Luther College in New Ulm, will present a brief introduction to electronic scoring with the Stat Crew software and programs used by many colleges in the Midwest.
The program is designed for those who “keep book” for amateur and high school teams as well as for those who score games just for fun.
Larson, who has ties to the Hanska area, has been a scorekeeper for 37 years and a league officer of the North Star League for 35. He has won the Mike Downs award in amateur baseball and is a member of the state amateur baseball Hall of Fame.
His presentation includes the basics of scoring including where baseball scoring came from, formulas for earned run averages, how to score a game and hard scoring decisions and other topics.
The seminar is sponsored by New Ulm Sports Central which is dedicated to preserving present and past scoring records.
Resources in baseball/softball software as well as on-line scoring tips will be provided each attendee.
