St. James scored a 9-1 win over Hanska as the state's Class C runners-up in 2009 dropped their second game. St. James is 2-0 in the American Division.
Of note was Springfield's second loss in the National, a 2-0 decision to Essig. Sleepy Eye edged the surprisingly tough Gibbon Reds 2-1 while the New Ulm Brewers went to 2-1 with a 7-3 win at Leavenworth to lead the National.

Sleepy Eye had its hands full in squeaking past a surprising Gibbon Reds team 2-1 Sunday. It wasn't until the seventh before the Indians took the lead after nursing a 1-0 avantage on a run in the third. Gibbon got its only run in the last of the ninth on Wade Dollarshell's home run.

Essig 2, Springfield 0
Dusty Fleck and Sam Hanson combined for a three-hitter to blank Springfield 2-0 for Springfield's second loss of the young season.
Fleck gave up a single in fourth before giving way to Hanson in the seventh. Hanson earned the save but had to work for it. Springfield loaded the bases in the seventh before getting a third out on a strike-out.
Essig had one it until the fifth when Ty Sellner led off with a double and scored on Brad Hilleshiem's single. The Bluejays added another in the sixth as Jason Schmitz led off with single and stole second, A sacrifice and fielder's choice figuring in the scoring.
