MANKATO -- New Ulm Cathedral trails Barnum 6-0 after three innings in the state girl's fast-pitch softball tournament here. Rain suspended activity. The game is scheduled to resume approximately 3:30 p.m.

Cathedral gave up three runs in each of the first two innings and was held hitless through the first third. Unofficial line score:

The Minnesota State High School League reported four games suspended. It's initial press release for Class A games included the following:

New Life Academy, Hermantown to defend titles;
Two teams making first appearances

The Eagles of New Life Academy of Woodbury in Class A and the Hawks of Hermantown in Class AA return to defend their respective titles. A new champion will emerge in Class AAA because Elk River, which won in 2009, failed to qualify for this year’s tournament.

Two teams are making their debut appearances at this year’s tournament, both in Class A: Blooming Prairie and Cherry/Cotton.

All three classes of the tournament will be conducted at Caswell Park in North Mankato on Thursday and Friday, June 10 and 11. Class A Quarterfinal Highlights (All games Thursday, June 10)
(Section 2) New Ulm Cathedral (22-3) vs. (Section 5) Barnum (23-2) @ 11:00 a.m. — The Greyhounds of New Ulm Cathedral are making their 11th tournament appearance, having won titles in 1993-95, 2003, 2005 and 2007. The Bombers of Barnum are making their seventh tournament appearance.

(Section 1) Blooming Prairie (23-2) vs. (Section 6) Menahga (10-14) @ 11:00 a.m. — The Awesome Blossoms of Blooming Prairie are making their first tournament appearance. The Braves of Menahga are making their fourth tournament appearance.

(Section 7) Cherry/Cotton (23-2) vs. (Section 8) Badger/Greenbush-Middle River (22-3) @ 1:00 p.m. — The Tigers of Cherry/Cotton are not only making their first state softball tournament appearance, but it is the first time the girls from either school have qualified for any state tournament. The Gators of Badger/Greenbush-Middle River are making their fourth appearance.

(Section 4) New Life Academy of Woodbury (19-1) vs. (Section 3) Wabasso (15-9) @ 1:00 p.m. — The two-time defending champions from New Life Academy of Woodbury are making their fifth consecutive and overall appearance. The Wabasso Rabbits return for their third consecutive and sixth overall appearance.
