SCHOENHERR GETS 100TH WIN

MVL baseball coach Jeff Schoenherr was credited with his 100th baseball coaching victory in the Sectional tournament when MVL beat Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 10-0 in the first championship series game.
When MVL lost in the next encounter, it was his 99th defeat. Admittedly 100 wins is not a crowning achievement in comparison to many other coaches, but it is a milestone none-the-less.

Information gathered and recorded by New Ulm Sports Central historian Ron Reinhart.

Baseball has struggled in its first years and had six different coaches before Schoenherr was given the assignment nine years ago. His longevity now is one more than Ron Briney's record and his 101-99 career record is only the second record .500 in the school's short history. Briney's 41 wins was the previous high.
Maynard Kramer held the "winning-est" percentage record at 22-20 for two seasons

MVL has been to the state in baseball once, losing both games in 2004 6-3 to Perham and 5-0 to St. Cloud Cathedral in the Class AA tournament. That year the team moved through the sectional by beating LeSueur-Henderson 3-0, Martin County West 10-0, United South Central 11-4 and Hayfield 8-7 and 5-4.

The 2004 team had a school record of 18 wins (vs 8 losses), a record which will stand through this year.
