Lamberton Stays Unbeaten, American in Donneybrook

Lamberton continued stayed undefeated in the Tomahawk East baseball season with a 7-0 win over Leavenworth for it's 11th straight Tuesday night while Searles protected it's one-loss record with a 4-3 squeaker over Hanska Wednesday in 11 innings.

Hanska's losss prevented it from taking over first place in the orrid American division race where St. James lost to Stark. St. James and Hanska are in a tie even though Hanska has played two more games. Both have split their seasons so far. Meanwhile Gibbon, despite a loss, stayed only a game and a half back.

For Searles it was the ninth win in 10 games in the Patriot Division but the Grizzlies are a game and a half back of Lamberton's Long Sox.

Tigers Roll Over Reds (From report on Springfield baseball home website.
Springfield played host to Gibbon on Wednesday night at Riverside Park, looking to avenge a loss in the bottom of the ninth in the league opener. The Tigers scored early and often as they rolled to an 11-1 victory in the contest, shortened to seven innings by the ten-run rule.
Jordan Milbrath took the hill for Springfield. He battled through three walks in the top of the first to keep the Reds off the scoreboard.
In the home half of the first, Brady Schwab led off by smashing the first pitch he saw for a base hit. Alex Fink laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a Gibbon error. Another error allowed Schwab to score the first run of the game. Matt Baier was hit by a pitch and Marc Salazar drove a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Fink and increase the Springfield lead to two.
The Reds got back-to-back hits in the third, including an RBI double by Justin Schwecke, to cut the Springfield lead in half. In the bottom of the inning, Schwab crushed a double to deep right field. Alex Fink brought him around to score when he followed with a single.
The Tigers extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Christian Loomis led off with a single. Milbrath laid down a sac bunt and reached base on another Gibbon miscue. Alex Frank made the score 4-1 when he hit a sacrifice fly to left. Schwab was intentionally walked to bring up Alex Fink. Fink made them pay with another run scoring base hit, pushing the score to 5-1.
Milbrath settled in to allow just one hit over his final three innings of work. The Tigers plated four more in the bottom of the sixth with key, run scoring hits from Schwab, Alex Fink, and Salazar to make the score 9-1.
Bryant Krebs came on to pitch in the top of the seventh and retired the side in order. In the bottom of the inning, the Reds were unable to get any outs as Springfield took advantage of two walks, an error, and two hits. Baier ended the game, driving in the Tiger's eleventh run, invoking the ten-run rule.
Brady Schwab and Alex Fink had huge nights at the top of the Tiger order, each with three hits and a combined five runs batted in. Matt Baier, Bob Fink, Marc Salazar, Christian Loomis, and Bryant Krebs each contributed one hit to the home team's total. Jordan Milbrath earned the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Wade Werner was the losing pitcher for Gibbon going 5 1/3 innings.
The win improves Springfield's league record to 3-7 and 6-9 overall.
Gibbon’s website reported: “Not much went the reds way on Wednesday night. The Reds struggled in the field, on the mound, and at the plate. Gibbon will look to get out of this mini slide on Friday against Redwood Falls.”
