TOMAHAWK EAST LEAGUE ROUNDUP

Sunday's Tomahawk East schedule produced a bunch of refreshing wins for teams on the low end of the totem poles of each of the three divisions while Searles, one of the season leaders, took two defeats and New Ulm with the third best over-all record also fell.

Searles lost to Sleepy Eye 10-2 as the Indians won a pair of games to increase it's total to five wins, the same number how won by Leavenworth and Stark. No outcome has been reported on Redwood Falls vs Lamberton. and Essig captured its fourth game in the balanced divisions of the TEL.

In the key game, St. James edged Hanska 9-8 to break a tie between the two for the lead in their divisions.

HANSKA - St. James defeated Hanska 9-8 in Tomahawk East Amateur baseball action Sunday. The win move St. James into sole possession of the division lead since it broke an actual perentage tie between the two teams even though Hanska had played two more games.

Dayton Larson took the loss for Hanksa. For St. James, both Justin Kaus and John Branstad had three hits. Brady Selnus had two hits.

For Hanska, Eric Portner was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Mikale Gustafson had two hits and three RBIs. Hanska's next game is Wednesday at Franklin Rogers in Mankato against the Mankato Twins.

Sleepy Eye 3, Gibbon 2
Sleepy Eye's Indians edged the Gibbon Reds by 3-2, the second close encounter between the two this season. A tenth inning sac fly ended the game after Jon DeRock almost got out of bases loaded jams two innings in a row. Sam Van Hon got the start for the Reds and went five innings, DeRock went the rest of the way. Gibbon put together nine hits with Jon DeRock getting three singles and Sam Van Son and Ryan Panning singles and doubles. For Gibbon DeRock and VanSon had the RBI's. This has been a continuing problem for the Reds as of late. Gibbon has the week off and will head to Cambridge this weekend to participate in their first in-season tournament in Gibbon's amateur history.

Searles 14, Springfield 6
In Friday action, Searles whipped Springfield 14-6 to protect its one-loss season in the Tomahawk.
