The big stories in the Tomahawk League East this week might have been soley's Lamberton's third loss and the tight race in the National where Hanska won. However, Springfield's 1-0 loss to Redwood Falls has to be the feature.
It was the eighth one-run loss for Springfield this year. (Details and Pictures) John Jenniges, making his first start, pitched the shutout for Redwood Falls while Sam Hanson hurled Essig over Leavenworth 9-2 and Hanska blanked Gibbon 6-0. Gibbon details.
Running a close second in the "surprises" feature's analysis is Searles' 8-7 11-inning victory over St. James. The win culminated a season-long drive for the Grizzlies to over-take the state tournament veteran Lamberton Long Sox. Both are now tied in the division.
Hanska's win was its eighth (8-9) in the American Division where it leads by half game over Stark (7-9) in unusual division race which does not have a team over .500 percent and everyone still in contention for the division title.
Essig improved to 8-8 and to within three games of New Ulm in the National. Essig announced today that it's June 25th rain-out with St. James will now be played Wednesday, July 21 at 8 p.m. at St. James.
In another postponement announcement, the Sleepy Eye @ Stark game has been rescheduled for July 9, at 8:00 p.m. at Stark because the first matchup on June 13th between these two teams was played in Sleepy Eye due to unfavorable field conditions at Stark.
