Sioux Falls, S.D. - New Ulm Legion Gold made quick work of Valley Springs as it won 14-2 Friday in Sioux Falls.
Kyle M. Fischer earned the win. Kyle E. Fischer was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Jason Shaul was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Garrett Fischer had two RBIs.
Gold (14-10) plays Watertown, S.D. and Sioux Falls West today.

Sioux Falls Post 15 East went 2-0 and West 0-1 on the opening day of pool play at the Mid-Summer Shootout on Friday at Harmodon Park. East beat Brookings 11-5 and Fargo Post 2 8-6. West lost 13-9 to Watertown.

East beat Brookings as Brooks Cross singled and doubled and Connor Schaefbauer, Cory Steffen and Jared Miller each singled twice. Cole Halgerson had a two-run single, Alex Schultz a two-run double, Trey Naasz an RBI double and Schaefbauer and Miller RBI singles in East's eight-run second inning. For Brookings, Zach Thomas had a triple and two singles, Landon Busch a triple and single and Andy Lee and Sam Froehlich two singles each.

Against Fargo, Schaefbauer was 4-for-5, Halgerson was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI, Taylor Rasmussen was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Dillon Schenkel was 2-for-5 with three runs scored for East (30-12).

Valley Springs lost twice, falling 17-2 to Watertown and 14-2 to the New Ulm (Minn.) Gold. Pool play ends today.
