Tomahawk East League playoffs have moved quickly to already qualify Lamberton and Essig for the regional playoff format while the season is over for Gibbon, Sleepy Eye and Redwood Falls.
Games Tuesday and Wednesday will settle drafting rights and the balance of the playoff positions.
In the American, Stark (1-1) is at St. James Tuesday and needs a win to force a "if necessary" game Thursday. If St. James wins Tuesday, St. James is qualified for the playoffs.
Springfield and New Ulm met Tuesday in New Ulm with the series tied by two one-run games in the National division. The winner plays at New Ulm Wednesday against Essig for positioning and drafting rights. Essig will be the "home team" if Springfield knocks New Ulm out of the running.
Lamberton's Patriot entry is already in the region and awaits the winner of the Leavenworth vs Searles game Tuesday at Springfield with the winner advancing to regional play as a high seed. the Leavenworth Searles winner plays Lamberton Wednesday in the draft game situation.
Springfield's baseball website reported on the win over New Ulm but no details were available from New Ulm. Springfield's baseball website page expertly detailed how the Brewers squandered a five-run lead in the eighth inning innings. No details from either game at Leavenworth or Searles were reported Monday. No doubt Gibbon's early exit was disappointing to the Reds who made great strides to be competitive this year. That could account for the absence of the Gibbon website reports of the games with St. James and Stark.
The Marshall Independent highlighted Lamberton's win over Redwood Falls thus:
"Johnny Pistulka struck out 14, and surrendered no walks as Lamberton blew out Redwood Falls 14-2 on Sunday, earning the sweep in the first round of the Tomahawk East League playoffs in Redwood Falls.
The Long Sox's power was on display on Sunday, with four players hitting home runs. Colby Pack led the way with two home runs and six RBI, finishing 2-for-3. Landon Erickson and Jake Wall both had 3-run home runs. Pistulka added a solo shot.
Lamberton's next opponent will be determined later this week. The Long Sox will open up the next round of the league playoffs at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Lamberton.
