Editor's Note: Following represents updated final version of reports throughout the day for the Friday game sof New Ulm Junior Legion in its quest for the state VFW state championship.
AUSTIN - New Ulm's Junior Legion two won two games Friday to move on in the state VFW baseball tournament, beating Proctor and then Red Wing, sending both teams out of the tournament.
A four-run second inning game New Ulm enough runs to win it with Ben Wolf protecting the lead. Jr. League had a 4-1 lead until Red Wing grabbed a pair of runs in the sixth to make it interesting, especially with Legion thinking about the near doomsday rally pulled off against them by Proctor.
Proctor scored six runs in the last of the seventh to come within one of ending New Ulm's season. Jr. Legion players lost three routine fly balls in the bright sun in that inning according to coach Bob Skillings.
Jr. Legion plays a 4 p.m. game Saturday with coach Skillings sending Jory Dove to the mound.
The win over Red Wing in the state VFW tournament it was New Ulm's 30th victory against eight losses. The all-time mark is 36 by the 1987 team which finished with a 36-4 record and the state championship. The 2009 Junior Legion team won 34 and lost five. Records are based on data gathered and documented by Carl Wyczawski and New Ulm Sports Central. Some year’s records, however, are not available because of lost information or incomplete data.
A game inning by inning recap of sorts for Friday's games follows below.
New Ulm squandered an 11-2 lead and hung on to a 12-11 victory to stay alive against Proctor. New Ulm sent 15 batters to the plate to score nine runs in the third inning to take 9-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Friday Austin eliminated Alexandria 8-7 to stay alive. Austin won the tournament last year but was granted host team status for this year. Worthington also won. Red Wing lost to drop into the loser's bracket against New Ulm. Other scores Friday included Bemidji beating favorite St. Paul Ran-View 7-4, St. Paul over Austin 8-4 and Worthington over Red Wing 10-6 in eight innings.

New Ulm got three hits in third but wasn't able to score. New Ulm outhitting Red Wing 9-2 after three. Each team one error.
Red Wing goes down in order in fourth.
New Ulm threatened in fourth highlighted by Peterson's sixth hit of the day. A balk which scored a run was over-ruled.
Lead off batter got to second on single and error, moved to third on ground out, but doesn't score.

New Ulm Jr. Legion 17, Forest Lake 2
AUSTIN - New Ulm Jr. Legion crushed Forest Lake 17-2 Thursday in the elimination bracket game Thursday night. The game was called at the end of the fifth by the 10 run rule. Jr. Legion will now play Proctor at 1:30 Friday in another elimination game. If it wins, it would go back into the winner's bracket with a game at 5 p.m. against the Worthington/Red Wing Winner.
Alexandria has also dropped into the elimination bracket.
New Ulm got six hits for five runs in the third and five more hits and an error to score another five in the fourth as the Junior Legion has come out with bats blazing. It added sixth in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Erich Prokosch has taken over pitching in the fourth for starter Ben Wolf. After getting the first two outs, gave up two runs on four straight hits and left the bases loaded. New Ulm got four hits for three runs to go up 17-2 going into the last of the fifth.

Earlier Thursday New Ulm Junior Legion fell to a six-run sixth inning in losing to Alexandria.
Alexandria got three hits in last of fourth to take 3-1 lead over New Ulm Jr. Legion in VFW state tournament at Austin. New Ulm came back with one in fifth to trail 3-2. Kehren's single, two Alexandria errors and a double play fielder's choice scored tying run.
Double, triple and bunt score first two in fifth inning in progress for Alexandria. Error scores third. Singles scores fourth.
Pat Bock replaces Linscheid on mound with runners aboard. Linscheid charged with nine hits. Wild pitch scores fifth run. Bock gets third out.
