BULLHEADS ZAP FARIBAULT 10-0 SATURDAY NIGHT

FARIBAULT - Pitcher Kyle Messner fanned 11, walked none, and allowed just three harmless singles as the visiting Searles Bullheads shut out the Faribault Flames 10 -0 Saturday evening in a five-inning game 10-run rule shortened game. Submitted by: Bruce Jacobs - Searles Bullheads media rep.

Messner had a huge game offensively as well, connecting for four hits. Tom Steinbach went two for three and drove in three runs.

Messner began the game with a double and later scored on a Steinbach base hit. Doug Eckstrom brought in John Giefer with a bases loaded walk to give Searles a 2-0 first inning lead. Messner again started a three run fourth inning rally with a single. Walks to John Giefer and Mike Marquardt loaded the bases. Following a wild pitch that plated Messner, Dave Fauth and Steinbach drove in two more runs with base hits.

The Bullheads then put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth. Bruce Gieseke singled to center. Bruce Jacobs reached on an error, setting the table for Messner's doubled to bring for two runs. Back to back singles by Giefer and Marquardt scored Jacobs and Messner. After a Flames' error scored Marquardt, Steinbach drove in Fauth with the final Bullhead run on a fielder's choice.

Terry Steinbach is scheduled to pitch against Veseli in Sunday's 4 p.m. in Searles. The Vulcans and Bullheads are tied for second place in the River Valley League's Southern Division so the outcome of this game will have an impact on the upcoming MSMABA 32-team state tournament seedings.
