REGION 2C DOWN TO THREE WITH BREWER WIN

Two new state tournament representatives of Region 2C are assured after New Ulm Brewers defeated Lamberton 7-5 in playoff action Wednesday night. Lamberton and Hanska represented both the Tomahawk League and 2C in the state last year.

New Ulm now plays Searles Friday at Johnson Park in New Ulm at 8 p.m. The winner advances to the state tournament to join Essig who already had qualified with it's 10-inning win over Searles Tuesday. The winner and Essig will play for the region championship Saturday at a site to be announced. If a second game is needed, that would be played Sunday at 2 p.m. at Essig.

In Section 4B, the Mankato Twins continued to dominate and won its third straight shut-out by besting Marshall 10-0. Both had previously secured state tournament berths.

Zach More was the winning pitcher as he pitched the bottom of the eighth to protect a a 4-4 tie. Wade French entered in the 9th with a bases loaded, one out situation and got a game ending double play to get the save. The go-ahead RBI is credited to Garret Fischer who had a bases loaded bloop single to center in the ninth. A Lamberton error allowed two runs to score for a 7-4 New Ulm lead. All three runs in the ninth were unearned runs as Lamberton had two errors in the inning.
