UNION HILL - The Searles Bullheads defeated the Union Hill Pitbulls 3-2 Tuesday evening in a non-league 35+ game.
Lead-off hitter Kyle Messner sent the second pitch of the game over the scoreboard in right field to give Searles a 1-0 lead, a slim lead that lasted for 6 innings. Union Hill then got four consecutive hits and scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth off eventual winning pitcher Mike Marquardt. Tom Steinbach had started for Searles and threw three scoreless innings.
In the top of the seventh, Marc Max led off with a walk. Following a sacrifice bunt by Tim Steinbach, John Giefer and Todd Olson singled to load the bases. Walks to Marquardt and Tom Steinbach forced in the tying and winning runs. Messner earned the save by allowing one harmless hit and striking out three in the bottom of the inning.
