MINNETONKA WINS BACK-TO-BACK CLASS A BASEBALL TITLES

ST. PAUL - The Minnetonka Millers won the Minnesota amateur baseball Class A state championship for the second straight year in final weekend action Sunday. Minnetonka edge the Shamrocks 5-4 in the championship game at Dunning Field, St. Paul.

First round games started August 12 at Dunning Field in St. Paul and Veteran's Field in Minnetonka. A news setup divided 12 teams into an East Side and West Side bracket, playing down to a "Final Six" winner's bracket. The Champions from each of the four leagues had a first round bye as the two and three teams from each league played each other in the first round.

Minnetonka is the Champion from the Riverview League with Lyon's Pub the Champion from the Park National and they are both in the West Side Bracket played at Veteran's Field. The Shamrocks are the St. Paul Municipal Champions and Stockmen's Irish are the Champions from the Skyline League. Both of these teams are in the East Side Bracket played at Dunning Field.

Minnetonka was defending Champion and winners in 2006 and 2007r. St. Louis Park, Champions in 2008 was also in the 12 team field. Wesley Homes is the only other team to win an A Championship (2005) in the last nine years and they changed their name this year to Albert's Gators.

After the first weekend, Minnetonka and the Shamrocks were the only undefeated teams.  The Minneapolis Cobras, Stockmen's, Air Freight, and Lyon's Pub all had one loss.
