BIRD ISLAND - New Ulm's defense came apart in the mid innings as Howard Lake broke a 2-2 tie and went on to take an 8-2 win in the state amateur baseball tournament at Bird Island.

Howard Lake scored five runs in the fifth and sixth including three unearned runs in the fifth inning.

Kyle Fischer was charged with the loss.
