JORDAN - Kyle Messner Saturday pitched the Searles Bullheads into the MSMABA state championship game tonight at Jordan. He struck out 18 as the Bullheads beat the Bloomington Eagles in Saturday's semi-final game in Jordan.
Slayton's Barnstormers defeated Shakopee in the other semi-final game to set up the championship game tonight at Jordan.
Bloomingtononly threatened the first inning by loading the bases after three straight singles with one out before Messner struck out two.
Terry Steinbach, Todd Olson, Scott Schaefer, and Mike Marquardt came up with some clutch hits to drive in the four Bullheads runs. Marquardt lead off the second inning by reaching on an error. He took second on a throwing error by the Eagles catcher and scored on a two out Terry Steinbach single.
Tom Steinbach's fourth inning lead-off double set up a big two out RBI single delivered by Todd Olson. In the fifth, Messner walked and was thrown out trying to steal second base, but John Giefer followed with a single. Schaefer drove in Giefer with a double to the wall in right center, and Marquardt drove in Schaefer with a base hit to center for the final Searles tally.
